In this Field Test Shooting video for the Umarex Marlin Old West CO2 BB Revolver I check real-world performance: first I measure fps using a fresh standard 12-gram CO2 cartridge and 4.5 mm steel BBs through my chronograph. After that I hang a paper target at 30 feet and fire 10 rounds using the Single-Action-Only trigger to see what kind of grouping the revolver delivers straight out of the box. For the velocity test I put five shots through the chronograph. The slowest registered 345 fps and the fastest hit 416 fps, with an average of 403 fps, right in line with Umarex’s claimed 400 fps. Perfect for popping cans and casual plinking out to roughly 30–40 feet. The test was done inside a sea can at about 18°C (≈64°F), which gives a middle-of-the-road CO2 performance; warmer weather will typically push velocities higher.
Next I set the paper target on my pellet trap at 30 feet. Using my usual semi-rested position (hands braced on a front sandbag and seated on a stool), I fired 10 rounds with the Marlin Old West. The group measured roughly 4 inches, a bit left and just slightly high from the bullseye — not far off and similar to the grouping I got with the John Wayne Marshal CO2 BB Revolver, although the Marlin’s velocity numbers were notably higher.
The Umarex Marlin Old West CO2 BB Revolver is an inexpensive, mostly-plastic Single Action Army style revolver. There’s a fair amount of polymer in the construction, but it still feels solid despite being on the lighter side. That lighter weight can make the gun feel a bit twitchy in the hand compared with heavier replicas, which can affect accuracy. At the time of this video the Canadian price was about $99, which makes it good value — especially since it loads 18 rounds quickly compared with traditional shell-loading revolvers, meaning more trigger time with less fuss. First up for my velocity fps test of the John Wayne Marshal CO2 BB Revolver, I shot 5 rounds through my Chronograph. The slowest fps was 354 and the fastest shot hit an fps of 368, this result averaged 358 fps which was a somewhat under the claimed “up to” 420 fps from AirVenturi, still an OK velocity for shooting pop cans and the likes up to 30-40 feet away. The temperature in the Sea Can was about 20 degrees Celsius which is around 68 degrees Fahrenheit, so a good temperature to get middle of the road performance from a CO2 Airgun like the John Wayne Marshal CO2 BB Revolver. In warmer temperatures you can expect higher velocities…
I then placed my paper target on my pellet trap 30 feet downrange and using my standard semi rested shooting position (hands rested on a sandbag up front and sitting on a stool in the back), I proceeded to shoot 10 rounds into the target with the John Wayne Marshal CO2 BB Revolver and I was able to get about a 4 inch grouping well centered up and down but pushed to the left about 3 inches. I am not sure why this shot grouping spread out so much for me as my Crosman Forty Filed Test Review gave me a much better grouping and these guns are literally the same gun with different branding being the only real differences. Maybe I was just off on this day? Hey it happens sometimes!
The John Wayne Marshal CO2 BB Revolver is a lower cost mostly plastic Single Action Army Revolver with a fair amount of plastic in the build, but it does feel fairly well built and fairly solid other than being a bit lighter weight. It should produce close to 400 fps velocities in warmer conditions which is more than enough for plinking and pop can shooting which is really what it is built for. I do have to mention that this John Wayne Marshal CO2 BB Revolver for whatever reason is double the price of the Crosman Fortify CO2 BB Revolver I reviewed earlier, so if you don’t care about the John Wayne Licensing, than maybe consider the Crosman version for a lower priced option.

I then setup a fresh paper target 30 feet down range and shoot 10 rounds into it shooting in Single Action to see how tight of a grouping I can get out of the box. The slowest velocity was 327 fps and the fastest shot hit an fps of 351, this result averaged 345 fps which was a bit under the claimed “up to” 400 fps from Barra, still a usable velocity for shooting pop cans and the likes at 30-40 feet down range. The temperature in the Sea Can was I would say around 20 degrees Celsius which is 68-69 degrees Fahrenheit, so a decent temperature to get middle of the road performance from a CO2 Airgun like the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver. In warmer temperature you can expect closer to the claimed 400 fps.

I did notice the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver liked to shoot a bit high, almost 4-5 inches higher than I was aiming but it did center left to right fairly well.
The Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver is a lower cost and almost all plastic Single Action Revolver with only a few internal meat parts in the build, that said it does feel well built and fairly solid in the hand. It may produce that claimed 400 fps velocity by Barra in warmer conditions which is more than enough for plinking and pop can shooting which is really what the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver is designed to do. I found it to be accurate enough for it’s intended purpose but it did push a little high on the target out of the box, at least my demo unit would require me to aim a little under my intended target by about 4-5 inches at 30 feet away for near bullseye shots as there is no way to adjust the sights manually. The Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver will provide lots of shots per CO2 and has a much higher capacity magazine holding 18 rounds as compared to other shell loading revolvers that only hold 6 rounds. If you’re OK with a bit less realism, then the Barra Cowboy Series 1858 CO2 BB Revolver may even outperform the more expensive and more realistic Single Action Army Revolvers on the market at a less expensive price point.

Back to the Field Test Shooting Review! Rather than just testing the 3.5 inch barreled Umarex Legends Ace in the Hole SAA Pellet Revolver by itself, I also compare it to two other Umarex SAA Revolvers, in 5.5 and 7.5 inches version. I wanted to see how the barrel length effected power and accuracy and I was kind of surprised at the results.
I shot three rounds from each Umarex SAA Pellet Revolver through my Chrony Chronograph and averaged them out for each gun. Umarex claims the Umarex Legends Ace in the Hole SAA Pellet Revolver to get around 340 fps and it shot an average of 323fps with a brand new CO2 and using 8.2 gram lead pellets, not bad at all considering the pellet weight and colder temperature of around 15 degrees Celsius. next I shot the 5.5 inch Umarex SAA Pellet Revolver in the same manner and averaged 347fps which is kind of what I was expecting die to the anger barrel. SO when I came to the 7.5 inch Umarex SAA Pellet Revolver I was expecting even higher results but was surprised by my results which where exactly the same as the 3.5 inch version coming in at 323fps? Perhaps the valve was a bit detuned on the 7.5 inches version, I am not sure?
Moving on to the accuracy performance for the Umarex Legends Ace in the Hole SAA Pellet Revolver. Again I sued the same 8.2 grain RWS flathead pellets and emptied a full cylinder into my paper target positioned 30 feet downrange. My accuracy result for the Umarex Legends Ace in the Hole SAA Pellet Revolver where decent with my 6 shoot group getting around a 2 inches and well centered on the target, just a lad high but not by much. I am pretty sure I pulled one of the shots so I think I should of gotten closer to 1.5 inches. Next I Shot the 5.5 inch UmarexSAA Pellet Revolver but seemed to struggle a bit with it. I found the 5.5 inch Umarex SAA Pellet Revolver shot to the left and my 6 shot grouping was a lot more spread out exceeding 2 inches by a bit. Lastly I tested out the 7.5 inch Umarex SAA Pellet Revolver and it was the clear winner placing all 6 rounds wishing the black bullseye getting close to a 1 inch grouping. I love it when that happens :)
Well the Shipping Container Office and Airgun Shooting Range is finally all ready to use and so for this first ever airguns shooting video in it, I simply wanted to try out a couple of airguns and see how this new setup worked. I also wanted to play around with some camera position setup to see how it all looked and if there will be any additional lighting or placement considerations.
This Field Test Shooting Video Review focuses on the performance results of the Umarex Colt Single Action Army CO2 Pellet Revolver. I put it through its paces to see what kind of feet per second performance it can achieve using .7 grain RWS lead pellets. I also perform my standard 6 shot Revolver accuracy test from a 30 foot back semi rested shooting position to see how this classic cowboy 6 shooter groups on a paper target.
In my first portion of the fps velocity test, I used my somewhat temperamental Chronograph shooting several RWS 7 grain lead pellets using a brand new CO2. I really did not have much luck with my Chronograph today, it did not seem to like the lead pellets I was using? I went through 12 shots and only got 3 decent readings which where rather spread apart. 318, 484 and 333 fps for an average of 378 fps. I can say that when shooting the Umarex Colt Single Action Army CO2 Pellet Revolver the pellets do seem to get to the target pretty quickly and my gut estimate is that they are moving somewhere in the high 300 to low 400 fps range.
Next on my Field Test Shooting list was the accuracy portion of this review where I did not have to worry about my tech gear working properly! I performed my standard 30 foot back paper target shooting test using a semi-rested position, standing in the back with a sandbag up front to rest my hands on for stability. This position is nice and steady but not perfect so there is always some human factor to consider and I know at least one of the 6 shots went a bit high on the account of me pulling that one shot just a little bit. Removing that one shot I kind of blew, I was able to get a very tight .75 inch grouping with the Umarex Colt Single Action Army CO2 Pellet Revolver. And looking back at the video my hold was a little on the jittery side, perhaps one too many espresso this morning...
I am a huge fan of these Umarex distributed Colt Single Action Army CO2 Pellet Revolvers, they now come in 4.5mm Steel BB, .177 caliber lead pellet and even Airsoft versions so you can take your pick depending on your intended use. If you want the best accuracy then definitely go for the pellet shooting version with its rifled barrel as you should be able to hit a quarter at 30 feet with it all day long.
Part 2 of my two part Field Test Shooting Video Review, this one focuses on the accuracy or target portion using my Umarex Colt Single Action Army Shell Loading BB Revolver. As per usual I set my self up 30 feet from my paper targets using a semi rested position (Standing in the back, while resting the gun on a sand bag up front). I normally take 10 shots and see what kind of a grouping I can get but with a six shooter that requires some reloading so we will base this testing on six shots.
Like part 1 in my Chronograph or velocity Field Test, I use a variety of ammo, starting off with 4.5mm Steel BB's and then switching to some 4.7mm Lead BB's for the second group of 6 shots from the Umarex Colt Single Action Army Revolver. I decided not to try the Dan Wesson Dummy Shells since they proved to be not so reliable during my Chronograph testing.
At the end of the Video I have some fun with my KWC / Cybergun Government 1911 just to see how it compares to a fixed barrel revolver.

I decided to split this Field Test Shooting Review of the Umarex Colt Single Action Army into two parts since i wanted to do multiple tests with multiple types of ammo and dummy shells. at the end of the video I also throw in my Cybergun / KWC 1911 Blowback BB Pistol just for fun since both of these pistols where used in the US Military.
I start off by testing out the Umarex Colt Single Action Shell Loading BB Revolver shooting 6 rounds through my Chronograph using the included Umarex Dummy Shells with steel 5.1 grain 4.5mm BB's since this is what most people will experience. In my second test I switch up the ammo slightly and try out some much heavier Lead BB's that are a bit larger than 4.5mm (about 4.7mm) and weigh in at somewhere between 7-8 grains.
On my third test I go back to the standard 4.5mm Steel BB's but switch out the included Umarex dummy shells and replace them with some Dan Wesson Dummy Shells. Both shells are about the same length and width but with the included Umarex shells, you load the BB's into the back of the shell. With the Dan Wesson shells you load the BB into the front of the shell.
What do you do when you have some nice weather and a brand new Umarex Shell Loading Colt Single Action Historic CO2 BB Revolver that you are itching to try out! Well you go shoot it, that's what you do! So I thought I would setup a bunch of miscellaneous targets along with some cameras and record the fun so you all could join me :)
I did use steel BB's for the most part but I also gave some lead BB's I had lying around a try, the lead BB's are a bit larger in diameter so they fit fairly snug, I would not recommend using them on anything other than a brand new CO2 cartridge or they could get stuck in a shell or the barrel. The lead BB's are also much heavier than steel BB's so they do not go as fast but seemed to work pretty good for me. A great option if you are shooting at metal targets with your Umarex Colt Peacemaker!
I also discovered that one can simply load BB's directly into the back of each shell without having to actually take the shells out of the Umarex Colt Single Action Army Revolver, so if you only have 6 shells and want to keep the shooting moving along then just pop the BB's directly into the shells.
