Umarex P2P Secure 68P Less Lethal .68 Cal Impact Penetration Damage Video

Today, we’re putting the Umarex P2P Secure 68P .68 Caliber Less Lethal Pistol to the test to see what kind of penetration and impact power it can deliver against a variety of real-world materials.

We already ran this pistol through our standard field and chronograph testing. Shooting a 3-gram .68 caliber nylon round, we clocked it right around 330 FPS (against the claimed 350 FPS rating), which places its output somewhere in that solid 15 to 19 Joules range. While it doesn't pack the massive 30-Joule punch of the larger T4E T68/TC68 rifle platform, it is significantly more compact, lightweight, and easy to handle.

Let’s see what happens when the P2P Secure 68P goes up against three different target surfaces: 3-ply construction plywood, a galvanized steel trash can lid, and a heavy-duty plastic bucket lid.

Target 1: The 3-Ply Plywood Test

We kicked things off with standard 3-ply plywood to test structural penetration.

  • Shot 1 & 2: Firing a couple of quick rounds downrange, the nylon projectiles hit with high velocity and bounced right back. Both shots left clear, prominent surface impact marks and slight indentations on the wood face.

  • The Verdict: Unlike the full-size T68 rifle—which punched clean through the board—the Secure 68P did not penetrate the 3-ply plywood. That said, it transferred a lot of kinetic energy onto the surface, leaving visible damage right where the rounds struck.

Target 2: The Galvanized Steel Challenge

Next up was the heavy-duty galvanized steel trash can lid. Steel is notoriously unforgiving, but it provides a great gauge of raw kinetic impact.

  • The Impact: Firing a couple of rounds directly at the lower/center area of the lid resulted in loud, crisp strikes.

  • The Verdict: The pistol put solid, noticeable dings and dents right into the steel. While it obviously won't punch clean through galvanized sheet metal like a rifle platform, you can see the sheer kinetic force behind these .68 caliber nylon balls.

Target 3: The Plastic Bucket Lid

For our final barrier test, we taped up a standard plastic bucket lid to see how the pistol interacts with a slightly more flexible polymer target.

  • The Shots: We put a couple of rounds into the plastic lid, with one shot striking slightly higher near the reinforced rim and a follow-up round hitting cleanly in the center target area.

  • The Verdict: While the rounds didn't punch clean through on the first couple of tries, the direct hit left a very deep, prominent divot stretched deep into the plastic. With a few concentrated shots in the same zone, it has more than enough energy to breach standard plastic containers.

Less-Lethal Defense & Deterrent Capability

Looking at these results, the Umarex P2P Secure 68P stands out as a highly capable and practical less-lethal home defense option.

  • Practical Stopping Power: If an intruder or threat is heading your way, getting hit with a 3-gram .68 caliber nylon projectile traveling over 330 FPS is going to hurt tremendously. Against everyday clothing like t-shirts, jeans, or light jackets, it delivers immediate, painful deterrence that will make anyone rethink their direction.

  • Ergonomics & Ease of Use: The pistol is super quick and intuitive to reload with spare magazines, uses a standard trigger safety, and offers manageable recoil while maintaining sufficient defensive energy.
