Supreme Court Of Canada Rules That Air Guns Are Firearms

Here is a Press Release taken from the NFA website, I have also made a YouTube Video going over all of this in my own words and what it really means for us law abiding airgun owners in Canada so make sure to watch my video below for further explanation...

"On Wednesday, November 5, the Supreme Court of Canada issued its ruling R. v. Dunn, finding that most air guns are considered “firearms” for all purposes in the Criminal Code except for licensing and registration.

The Court affirmed the previous decision of the Ontario Court of Appeal, which itself had overruled a decade of its own jurisprudence in finding that air guns are “firearms”. Prior to this case, the courts had held that air guns are not treated as “firearms” unless they are used for some offensive or unlawful purpose.

This decision applies to all air guns that are capable of causing serious bodily injury or death. Most courts have found that any air gun with a velocity of more than 214 feet-per-second meets this threshold. The vast majority of air guns sold across the country are capable of such a velocity.

This decision will have numerous significant impacts on those who buy and use air guns lawfully in Canada.

First of all, the Criminal Code provisions regarding careless storage, use and transportation of firearms now apply to air guns. Therefore, it is an offence to store or transport an air gun in a “careless” manner. However, because the ordinary firearms Storage Regulations do not apply to air guns, air gun owners are left with absolutely no guidance as to what precisely constitutes careless storage of an air gun.

It will be left up to police, prosecutors and courts to determine what charges will be laid, which will be prosecuted and ultimately who will be found guilty of this nebulous and ambiguous offence.

Moreover, as air gun owners do not require a license or a firearms safety course to possess these items, law-abiding Canadians will not be put on notice of the new legal requirements for air gun use, storage, transportation, etc.

Secondly, the offence of “carrying a concealed weapon” now applies to air guns, regardless of whether or not the air gun owner acts in an otherwise lawful manner. Placing an air gun in a backpack, a pocket or other concealed place will now be a criminal offence.

As the Supreme Court has ruled on this issue, the only route forward is through legislative amendment. Canada’s National Firearms Association has been extremely active on this front and will continue to pressure the government and provide all assistance in order to see that this decision be responded to by Parliament."

Canada’s National Firearms Association is this country’s largest and most effective advocacy organization representing the interests of firearms owners and users.

My big concern with this new Supreme Court of Canada ruling is that it really only effects law abiding Canadians. The criminals are not going to be worrying about how they store, transport and handle an airgun and since this new "airgun rule" does not change how an airgun can be purchased, or the fact that a criminal can still be charged with a gun crime while using an airgun in a crime, nothing has really changed by this new law from a criminals perspective.

Even more disturbing is the fact that the vast majority of airgun owners are now criminals since most will not be storing their airguns in the same way a firearm needs to be stored. Most Airgun owners do not have a PAL Firearms license, so they will have no idea of this new airgun ruling or even be educated on firearms handling and regulations, making most airgun owners criminals because for the most part, they will be storing, transporting and handling airguns in an unlawful manner now according to this new airgun ruling.

Gletcher NGT Silver CO2 BB Revolver Table Top Review

Type: BB Revolver.

Manufacturer:Gletcher.

Model: NGT Silver (Replica of Nagant M1895 Revolver).

Materials: Metal & plastic.

Weight: 1.54 pounds (700 grams).

Barrel: 4 inches, smooth bore (Steel inner barrel).

Propulsion: 12 gram CO2.

Action: Revolver - single and double action.

Ammunition Type: 4.5mm Steel BB's.

Ammunition Capacity: 7 rounds.

FPS: 361fps (110m)

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Gletcher NGT Silver CO2 BB Revolver is nice and crisp in both single and double action, there is virtually no trigger wiggle and the trigger pull is decent in double action while much longer and of course nice and light in single action as expected. You will want to pre-cock the hammer for accurate single action shooting but have the option of shooting double action for any action shooting you may want to do. Keep in mind you will have to individually reload each round.

Accuracy: I have not done any shooting so far with this Gletcher revolver due to some pretty awful weather conditions. I expect it will shoot nice since it has a fairly long sight radius and the open iron sights are conducive to precise shooting.

Build Quality: The Gletcher NGT Silver CO2 BB Revolver is really well made, you can tell by it's solid weight for a fairly small pistol, all of the mechanical parts feel smooth and responsive. Everything that would be metal on the real M1895 Revolver is metal including the solid one piece cylinder. Yes the grips are imitation wood but this is to be expected. The sliver finish looks great and I like the black contrasting parts that really highlight this gun.

Realism: I've have not had the opportunity to actually put my hands on a real steel Nagant M1895 Revolver but from the photos I have viewed online, the Gletcher NGT Silver is very accurate in terms of being a BB replica. Of course the shells fit steel BB's internally and the barrel has been downscale to shoot 4.5mm Steel BB's but other than that it is very difficult to tell it from a real Nagant M1895 Revolver. Even the barrel opening is recessed and looks true to scale for the original rounds used in this revolver and you can remove the one piece cylinder similar to the real version.

Pros:

  • Beautiful Silver finish.

  • Very solid and weighty gun.

  • Hammer and trigger actions are very crisp, virtually no wiggle.

  • CO2 is well hidden.

  • Recessed barrel looks great.

  • 7 round cylinder instead of 6 like the other shell loading.

  • Cylinder can be removed.

  • Shoots in both signal and double action.

  • Grip is nice and small so great for shooters with small.

  • Shooting performance pros yet to be determined…

Cons:

  • Non adjustable sights. (Perhaps like original)

  • No speed loading on this one, one shell at a time, so make your shots count.

  • Shooting performance cons yet to be determined…

Comments:

The Gletcher NGT Silver CO2 BB Revolver is yet another addition of shell loading revolvers like the Dan Wesson and KWC 357 based revolvers, with the exception that the Gletcher NGT is more of a blast from the past and even though it comes in at a much more compact size, it holds an additional round! Another note worthy point is the fact that Gletcher has somehow figured out a way to reduce the CO2 release valve giving the Gletcher NGT a more true to scale frame size, I am talking about the distance between the hammer and the cylinder. This allows for a more realistic and true to dimension replica which in this classic revolver is super important.

Update Video - What Happened to all the Videos this Week?

Sorry guys, no videos this week! I made a management decision to skip making videos this week since my brain is not working so well right now and I'm pretty sure any attempts I would have made to make a shooting Field Test video would have been in vain...

The reason for my loss of brain function is lack of carbs in my diet. As it turns out, carbs are really important to the brain and its keeping all your day to day activities sorted out. I have cut all simple carbs from my diet for most of this week because I am preparing for a Mens Master Physique Fitness Contest that requires me to come in super lean and super dehydrated so that the muscle I have worked hard to get will look at its best.

My show is happening this weekend in New West Minister BC Canada, it's called the Sandra Wickham Fall Classic and there will be well over 400 competitors there in many different catagories.

If you are interested in following me along as I experience my first Mens Master Physique Fitness Contest, you can checkout my other YouTube Channel GetFitOver40 where I have a Vlog documenting this adventure.

Gun videos will commence again next week!

Blowback Airguns Versus Non-blowback Airguns 2

This topic of Blowback Airguns Versus Non-blowback Airguns comes up often so I thought I would address it a second time around since I get a lot of new visitors and subscribers daily who may not have watched my first video explanation on this topic. You can also checkout my first video on this subject since there may be some stuff I missed out in this video second video ;)

There are really two types of people asking or commenting on Blowback Airguns Versus Non-blowback Airguns. The first type of person who genuinely wants to know which is best and for what reasons. Then there is the other kind of person who makes a narrow minded statement that one type is clearly better than the other type, based on their own preferences and interests but not considering that there are other people out there with different opinions and preferences than them. You know who you are and we all know you are not going to change cause that would require an open mind...

Here is a list of the Pros and Cons I go over for each style of Airgun:

Pros:

  • Blowback guns simulate recoil.

  • Blowback guns can have better and more true triggers compared to their real steel counterparts.

  • Blowback guns can be better suited for action shooting.

  • Blowback guns are better as prop guns.

  • Blowback guns are generally more realistic in terms of mechanics.

  • Non-blowback guns generally use less CO2 per shot.

  • Non-blowback guns generally have higher fps.

  • Non-blowback guns can be more accurate.

  • Non-blowback guns can be more reliable.

  • Non-blowback guns can be less expensive.

Cons:

  • Blowback guns generally get less shots per CO2.

  • Blowback guns generally have lower fps.

  • Blowback guns can be less accurate.

  • Blowback guns can be less reliable.

  • Blowback guns can be more costly.

  • Non-blowback guns do not simulate recoil.

  • Non-blowback guns do not have true single action only triggers.

  • Non-blowback guns generally have heavier triggers that slow down shooting performance.

  • Non-blowback guns are generally not as good for prop use and or training.

  • Non-blowback guns generally are not as realistic compared to their real steel counterparts.

Do Airguns and Blank Guns Have Recoil?

In this Vimeo video, I go over a common question I get pertaining to the recoil effect of Airguns and Blank Guns. Many people want to know if Airguns and Blank Guns have similar recoil effects to a Real Guns and if so, how much recoil will you feel from an Airgun or Blank Gun?

The short answer is yes, there is some recoil with both Airguns and Blank Guns since whenever there is a force in one direction there will be a somewhat similar force in the opposite direction creating what we feel as recoil. With Airguns since the force from the CO2 or compressed air is rather small in comparison to that of the gun powder blast from a Real Guns or even a Blank Gun, the recoil is very slight. Blank Guns have similar gun powder charges to a Real Gun and so the recoil is more noticeable but unlike a Real Gun, a Blank Gun does not really push against a sizable object like a bullet, a Blank Gun only pushes against the air in front of the barrel which has very limited resistance and so there will be much less felt recoil from a Blank Gun than the recoil from a Real Gun pushing on a heavy grain bullet.

With semi auto Guns like Blowback Pellet and BB Guns and semi auto Blank Guns, there is also the momentum and mass of the slide to consider as it moves backwards and forwards which also gives the effect of recoil and in the case of an Airgun accounts for most of the recoil felt by the shooter.

Watch my Vimeo video on this subject where I go into much more detail and explain the effect of recoil when shooting Airguns and Blank Guns:

New Canada Storewide Lower Pricing Update Video

We have recently lowered our prices even more in our Canada Replica Airguns Store just to make sure we have the most competitive prices in Canada! Even so, if you find a lower price on an "In Stock" item then blast us an email and we will always do our best to price match other Canada retail and online stores.

If you have purchased a product from our Canada Online Store within the last 30 days and you find we have lowered the price on it, again, send us an email with your order number and we will send you an in-store credit for the price difference.

We have also moved to shipping via Fedex which in many cases will get your order to you even quicker across Canada. We may in some situations ship using Canada Post depending on where you are located but now we have more options to better suite our customers!

Lastly, I know there are US online stores that will ship select items to Canada and you may feel they have lower prices which at first may seem true. I would urge you to consider a few things before buying from the US and shipping to Canada. First of all there are often extended costs like brokerage fees, duties and add on taxes.  And just because a US store will ship to Canada, it does not mean you will get the item you ordered. Even if it seems legal according to our Canada import laws, many times Canada Customs will either hold, confiscate and or return items back to the sender and there is very little you can do about it other than try and plead your case. So worst case scenario, you could lose your money and get nothing in return?

And what if there is a problem with the order, wrong or defective item, then you need to ship it back to the US and again have it shipped back to Canada, two more potential customs related problems that you need to consider...

Anyways, just keep it simple, save yourself the headaches and order from the Canada Replica Airguns Store :)

Webley Alecto and Tempest Back in Stock - Update Video

Two of our most popular single shot target/hunting pellet shooters are back in stock again after what has been a rather long delay. The truth of the matter is we just didn't have a supplier for them anymore here in Canada until now. Webley as a company has been through some pretty big changes over the past several years and now hopefully it has all been worked out and supply will be steady.

Don't worry about the quality, that is still top notch! We now have the Turkish made Webley Alecto and Webley Tempest (both available in .177 and .22 caliber pellets) back in stock and I am happy to say the Alecto has even been improved with an upgraded Air Reservoir and even higher fps than before which means the Webley Alecto and the Webley Tempest now shoot right up to our maximum fps here in Canada before becoming restricted firearms so no need for an R-PAL which means happy shooting in places other than a gun range!

I would even rcomend both these Webley pistols for small pest control especially in the .22 caliber versions as they have the power and accuracy to get the job done.
